All students in the 7th and 8th grade participate in PJAS. Students start thinking about theirproject at the beginning of September using the scientific method. Students are thenresponsible for presenting a project through Power Point in December. Those chosen willcompete in the regional competition in February at Behrend College.
Fifth and sixth grade students participate in the yearly OLMC Science Fair. The purposes of thescience fair are to encourage students to develop problem solving and thinking skills; stimulateinterest, curiosity, and a desire to explore our world; foster independence by providing theopportunity to take initiative and responsibility in studying a topic of one’s choosing; and todevelop family cooperation and involvement. These projects are displayed at school sometimein January or February for the student body to observe. From there, students are chosen fromthe 5th and 6th grade classes to participate in the Diocesan Science Fair.
